Plot Alain Lefevre is a boxer paid by a Marseille mobster to take a dive. When he wins the fight he attempts to flee to America with the mobster's girlfriend Katrina. The French are not particularly known for their military prowess. The legion has the hardest military assault course in the world, located in French Guiana, they have visiting teams to test it out and it's a bit of sport.
The record is held by the legion at 45mins, visiting teams like the US Marines have taken up too 8 hours to complete the course. You'll see this come up in later parts of the documentary.
It seems they are that brutal, it's to make up for being perpetually on a shoe string budget. Did a quick search, and this is repeated on a few posts on the net, that are older than the documentary, but nothing concert.
